DNS services are the directory of the Internet which are provided by internet service providers (ISP). DNS resolve a domain name like Google.com into a real IP address that are known to routers and switches. The service is an important part of the internet but ISP-provided DNS servers are often slow and unreliable. DNS network has two sides: Authoritative (the content side) and Resolver (the consumer side).

Cloudflare and APNIC are together offering DNS service through 1.1.1.1 and 1.0.0.1. APNIC have tried previously to analyze the flood of traffic to the IP address.

Cloudflare CEO Matthew Prince explains, “We talked to the APNIC team about how we wanted to create privacy-first, extremely fast DNS system.” “We offered Cloudflare’s network to receive and study the garbage traffic in exchange for being able to offer a DNS resolver on the memorable IPs. And, with that, 1.1.1.1 was born,” he added.

The company will provide support for both DNS-over-TLS and DNS-over-HTTPS with latest DNS addition.  Cloudflare’s DNS is currently meeting a global response time of 14ms, compared to 20ms for OpenDNS and 34ms for Google’s DNS, which makes it the fastest DNS resolver for consumers. The 1.1.1.1 site has good instructions for the Android, Windows, a router, iPhone, macOS, and Linux.
