Samus Returns Revealed for Nintendo 3DS, 2DS — Metroid

If the title sounds familiar, it's in fact a 3DS remake of Metroid II: Return of Samus which was originally released for the Game Boy handheld waaay back in 1991. Check out the gallery below and let us know what you think of Samus's return to the Nintendo handheld library. The last Metroid game to release before that was Metroid: Other M on Wii, which was a platformer that also didn't get the most positive of responses from fans.

The live demo has also hinted at the incorporation of several new major abilities as well as some changes to how Metroid II's progress system works. These include melee counter, which allows her to get critical hits on enemies. The trailer with which they revealed the game just showed the name of the game with some very Metroid-y music playing in the background. The last game in the series was Metroid Prime 3, released in 2007. All three games - particularly the first two entries, Prime and Echoes - are highly regarded and fans have longed for years to play a new game. It is being developed by MercurySteam, the team behind Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Mirror of Fate.

In Samus Returns, you'll be able to place pins on your mini map whenever you come across a set of stones or a certain door or obstacle that you can't overcome.

The game will have a special edition with a reversible cover and a soundtrack with 25 tracks called "Samus Archives", with tracks from many games including Samus Returns.
