President Trump's Lawyer: Comey's Now Admitted He's "One of These Leakers"

Under question by the bipartisan committee - one of four congressional committees examining Russian interference in the election - Mr Comey said he believed that his handling of the Russian investigation into interference in the 2016 election was the reason he was sacked by Mr Trump. Comey says that he should not answer that question in a hearing open to the public, though clarifies he didn't mean to imply anything "nefarious".

Sessions recused himself from "any existing or future investigations" regarding the 2016 presidential race in early March, after facing bipartisan pressure to step aside from the probe due to his involvement with the Trump campaign.

Comey's almost three-hour appearance Thursday before the Senate Intelligence Committee marked his first public comments about the nine conversations he said he had with the president in the months before he was sacked. "I took it as, 'This is what he wants me to do.' I didn't obey that, but that's the way I took it", Comey said in an exchange with Idaho Republican Sen.

"What the president whispered in my ear was, I really look forward to working with you.Im sitting there thinking, three times weve already talked about me staying". "I didn't obey that, but that's the way I took it". But as first reported by The Washington Post, Sessions spoke twice previous year with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak-once in July at a Heritage Foundation event on the sidelines of the Republican National Convention, and another in then-Sen. "Would you tell me in there?" "This is what he wanted to me to do", even though Comey said he did not end the probe.

A crucial question is what Trump meant when Comey says the president told the Federal Bureau of Investigation director, "I hope you can let this go".

"Today, Mr. Comey admitted that he leaked to friends his purported memos of these privileged conversations, one of which he testified was classified", he continued.

"Despite so many false statements and lies, total and complete vindication.and WOW, Comey is a leaker!" Comey didn't respond "no", but instead said, "I don't think it's for me to say whether the conversation I had with the president was an effort to obstruct".

The new complaint will focus on Comey's testimony that he gave a friend the content of memos about his conversations with Trump and asked the friend to then give that information to a reporter.

The New York Times first reported on the memo on May 16. "But I asked him to, because I thought that might prompt the appointment of a special counsel". As a private citizen, I felt free to share that. "That is a very big deal, and not just because it involves me". "Unfortunately, most people would agree with Mr. Comey".

"We will leave it [to] the authorities to determine whether these leaks should be investigated along with all those others being investigated", the counselor said.

The FBI already is investigating possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian intelligence operatives trying to disrupt the 2016 election and undermine US democracy. Investors not unnerved by what they're hearing today.

Comey did not drop the Flynn investigation and was later fired as FBI director by Trump.

NRATV was quick to jump to Trump's defense before and during Comey's appearance. He testified that he made a decision to share the memo after seeing the president tweet about the possible existence of tapes of their conversations.
