At its event in Shanghai today, Microsoft officially announced the new Surface Pro. It brings 13.5 hours of battery. While the software giant has not revealed anything about what it intends to unveil at the said event, new rumors suggest that an update to the Surface Pro line might get announced. This puts the device in the ideal writing and drawing angle, which you can do with the Surface Pen. It is also lighter than its predecessors, weighing in at just 1.69 pounds for the lightest models, in part due to a new fanless design available on the Core m3 and Core i5 versions. Microsoft left out a USB-C connector or Thunderbolt in favor of its own proprietary Surface Connect.

The Surface Pro 4 was released in 2015, and it has faced stiff competition from newer 2-in-1 devices from Samsung, HP and Dell.

The new Surface Pro will also come with Alcantara keyboard which will be available in a choice of colours.

In addition, Panos Panay also recently confirmed that there's no such thing as a Surface Pro 5. "Surface Pro continues the iconic look and feel of previous Surface Pros, but has been completely redesigned from the inside out".

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has only recently wrapped up its #MICROSOFTEDU event in the City of NY, where the company showed off its Surface Laptop and Windows 10 S operating system. Sadly for budding tablet artists, the new Surface Pen is an optional extra and is not bundled in with the new Surface Pro.

The new Pro ships in mid-June for about $800.

Living up to the hype surround the event, Microsoft launched the Surface Pro.

The new tablet features enhanced battery life and processing power and will launch in the United Kingdom in June. The latest attempt inherits the Surface Studio's 165-degree angle for drafting, which allows the 12.5-inch display to rest almost flat.

The Surface Pro, running Windows 10 Creators Update, is priced from $799 (without the pen).

The new Surface Pro is now available for pre-order and is launching in 25 countries on June 15, including the U.S., the UK, China, Australia, Korea, Portugal, Ireland, and Germany.
