Millburn Township Memorial Day Remembrance Ceremony and Parade

Often seen as the official first weekend of the summer season, the real goal of Memorial Day is often lost.

The following is a list of Memorial Day-related events in the Killeen area.

Memorial Day observances will begin with the AUMC men's breakfast from 7-9 a.m. Monday at the Atlanta firehouse. There will be a presentation about Logan Cemetery. The Lakes High School Band and vocalist Rebecca Labb will perform. The emcee is Lt. Col. John Loomer (Ret.). Featured speaker will be the Rev. Ed Bray of St. Paul's United Church of Christ. Vittoria Reshkus is the poppy princess. Fern Prairie Cemetery Board members and volunteers will be available to answer questions Saturday, Sunday and Monday, from 9 dusk. Meanwhile, the rifle and bugler units will head to Rose Lawn and East Delavan cemeteries.

AURORA - An American Legion service at Veterans Memorial Park on Garfield Road will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday, followed by a parade at 10 a.m. from the park to Aurora Memorial Cemetery. The Ashland Area Honor Guard will fire a 21-gun salute at the cemetery.

Lee: Parade steps off at 10 a.m. Monday at the north end of Main Street, proceeds onto Park, Housatonic and Fuller streets ending at Fairmont Cemetery for a ceremony. The parade Marshal this year will be James Pitman, U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.

Ceremonies continue at Mount Olivet Cemetery at about 11:30 a.m. and then at Hazel Ridge Cemetery.

Canby - A Memorial Day program will be at 10 Central Park.

The Veterans Museum of the Mid-Ohio Valley will be open as usual on Memorial Day from 10 a.m. -5 its location at 1829 Seventh Parkersburg. Bruno community services will immediately follow Legion services.

The Memorial Service will be held at the Monroe Cemetery on Route 17M and will include remarks from Orange County Legislator Myrna Kemitz and Monroe Village Mayor James Purcell. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held inside the courthouse annex building next to the park. Mike Nelson and Matt Clark will host a photo clinic from 1 to 2 p.m. and guests will take part in an art silent auction from 6 to 9 p.m. Stop by to enjoy live music and free food provided by Swingbelly's BBQ.

The United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration began with the Presidential inaugural event at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., on Memorial Day, May 28, 2012, and concludes on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, 2025, by Presidential Proclamation.

On Saturday, the public is invited to place American flags at each grave in preparation for Memorial Day on Monday. There is a community potluck starting at 11 the beach.

WINDHAM - The Windham American Legion will host a parade on Monday. Mass, a memorial service will be held at 11 St. Peter Cemetery.
