HTC wants you to squeeze its U11 smartphone to take selfies

With a simple squeeze, HTC Edge Sense lets you easily engage with your phone in an unprecedented yet intuitive way, helping you more naturally enjoy the things you love like taking photos, opening Facebook, or launching any of your favourite apps. The phone will recognize short or long squeezes but, unfortunately, it does not differentiate different spots on the smartphone so it does not matter where you squeeze it, the action will be the same.

With a 10-nanometer-based mobile processor, the U11 provides processing speeds 25 percent faster than its predecessor, the HTC 10, according to the company. We're also looking at a 5.5-inch QHD display with Gorilla Glass 5, IP67 certification, a 12MP UltraPixel 3 camera with a f/1.7 aperture, 4K video recording, and a 16MP front-facing camera with BSI, voice selfie features, and Full HD video capture.

HTC claims that the phone is the highest rated smartphone camera in DxOMark ever thanks to its score of 90. HTC also squeezed in a decent 3,000mAh battery which supports Qualcomm's Quick Charge 3.0 technology and comes with two different power saving modes. The first variant comes with 4GB RAM and 64GB internal storage and the second variant comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. There is a 3.5mm-to-USB-C adapter included in the box, though.

HTC also revealed users will be able to activate certain features of the U11 by simply squeezing the device.

HTC is also touting the camera functionality of the U11.

HTC has finally delivered what customers have been asking for all along, as the U11 packs HTC's Boom Sound Hi-Fi edition technology, as well as 3D audio recording with four microphones and Hi-res audio certified.

In the US, Sprint is the exclusive launch partner for the HTC U11. Sprint will start pre-orders for the U11 later today, and the phone will become available in the United States on June 9. Early birds are set to get two free Amazon Echo Dots. Pricing for the unlocked model is $649.

The U11, no doubt, has an terrible name, but the company named it the U11 to make it clear that it is the true successor to the HTC 10.

HTC showed off its latest creation at a special media event streamed live over the web, in which it was keen to talk up the new input method, dubbed Edge Sense. One of the smartphone's exciting features is its squeeze function.

Each of the five U11 finishes we've seen has hidden colours within that appear as you move the device in your hand and catch the light on the surface in different ways. To avail the offer, all you need to do is use the coupon LOVEU11 at checkout when you place the pre-order.
