Bernie Sanders to call for 'political revolution' in Miami today

Ms. Mastromonaco added, "I think Barack Obama is probably still the leader of the Democratic Party, even though he is...on hiatus right now".

But some Democrats don't agree, and Sanders' appearance at a rally for Mello at Baxter Arena sparked a national debate about whether the party needs to focus on progressive policies and reject Democratic politicians like Mello who are opposed to abortion. The goal is to rebuild the party after the major rift that developed between supporters of Sanders and Hillary Clinton, the Democratic nominee for president.

During an interview with ABC News ahead of the rally Tuesday night, he proudly said he was "the longest-serving independent senator in United States history". He'd be much more at home in the Green Party, which tried to woo him into being their nominee previous year rather than Jill Stein. The Democrats' dysfunction has only grown during this train wreck of a tour, and to make matters worse Perez and Sanders are disturbingly quiet on whether or not they stand behind their buddies at the Arizona Democrat Party for accepting money from shady donors.

Sanders still does not call himself a Democrat.

Florida falls into the latter category of the DNC's ambitions since it went red for President Donald Trump past year after voting for the Democratic Party in 2008 and 2012. "We have millions of people who are living in pain", he said. They want to hear that optimistic message of inclusion. The crowd certainly favored Sanders, shouting "Bernie, Bernie, Bernie" as they waited during a 30-minute delay. In four years, Sanders would be 79 — nine years older than Trump, who is the oldest ever to assume the White House.

It takes more than being a younger Democrat for a candidate to gain Sanders' support.

Perez will not be at the Omaha rally, because he stepped away from the unity tour Thursday to attend fundraising events in Georgia, where Democrat Jon Ossoff is competing in a June 20 runoff to fill the suburban Atlanta House seat vacated by Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price.

Earlier Wednesday, U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings, D-Delray Beach, voiced doubt about Sanders' role in rebuilding the party. It is a promising step that Mello now shares the Democratic Party's position on women's fundamental rights. Many supporters of Clinton's campaign believe she failed not because she declined to attack the rich, but primarily because of outside factors beyond her control - the last-minute letter from FBI Director James Comey; the foreign intervention by Vladimir Putin and WikiLeaks; the archaic nature of the Electoral College.

Perez, Sanders and other speakers urged the crowd of activists to get involved in politics, run for local offices and speak out at government meetings.

Former presidential candidate Bernie Sanders will headline a Louisville event aimed at helping re-energize Kentucky's downtrodden Democratic Party.
